This exists because LA is huge (therefore space is relatively-cheap) and the population is big enough to support such madness.
That said, my grandparents had a lot of stuff like this. They had some flawless minimalist 1950s-60s leather couches that were pristine when they died about a decade ago.

I saw some retro stuff at Ikea last time I went. It all looked pretty HRRNGHNG. Maybe it’s worth checking out their catalogue.
